A Wonderful Experience!
April and May have been wonderful months in the 4th, 5th and 6th grade classrooms. On April
23rd, we celebrated Day of the Book in English class. I loved sharing some books that I read
when I was in elementary school. Here are some of the topics students learned in science and
English class in the months of April and May:
In April in the fourth grade science classroom, we learned about ancient history and the Roman
Empire. We played bingo and pictionary as a class to learn new vocabulary. In May, we learned
about the different parts of the economy and the different crops and products created in
Andalucía. In English class, for Day of the Book, we read The Rainbow Fish together and
students decorated their own paper rainbow fish.
In April in the fifth grade science classroom, we learned about the modern age. We learned
about the different technologies used to explore the Americas, like compasses and astrolabes.
In May, we learned about matter, volume and density. We also learned about the properties of
air and different forms of aircraft. As a class, we played a trivia game to practice our new
vocabulary. In English class, for Day of the Book, we read a chapter from The Magic Tree
House: Dinosaurs Before Dark. In the story, the two main characters travel to different places in
a magical tree house. Students designed their own magic tree house adventure using a
worksheet.
In April in the sixth grade science classroom, we learned about energy and sustainable
development. As a class, we played trivia to review the different sources of energy. In May, we
learned about the history of the European Union and the political map of Europe. Each 6th
grade class section played a game where they filled out the EU map as fast as they could. 6C
was the fastest class! In English, for Day of the Book we read a passage from Charlie and the
Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. After we read the passage together, students split up into
teams to design their own magical Wonka candy.
In May, I also helped with the escape room for the fifth grade’s overnight stay. I dressed up as a
ghost and helped teams complete the jump rope challenge. It was a lot of fun!
I’m so grateful for my experience as an auxiliar at CEIP Blas Infante. Throughout this year, I
have learned just as much as the students have! I’m grateful for the kindness of the teachers
and the endless enthusiasm the students have for learning. I will miss sharing jokes with
students and helping them practice their English in conversation. Most of all, I will miss their
smiles and wonderful attitudes! I will never forget my time here in Spain. It has been an
incredible experience and I am so lucky to have been able to live in Andalucía!
February
and March at CEIP Blas Infante
Hello everyone!
February and March were very fun months in the
4th, 5th and 6th grade classrooms. We worked on group projects focused on the
history of Spain and played fun games to reinforce new vocabulary. In English
class, I taught students about how we celebrate Easter in the United States.
Here are the things the students learned in February and March:
In the fourth grade science classroom, we
learned about prehistory, the time before writing was invented. To practice our
vocabulary, we played a game of “Pictionary.” Groups of students drew pictures
of our vocabulary, and the rest of the class had to guess what word was drawn.
In English class, we learned about Easter in the United States with a
presentation, then students designed their own paper Easter eggs.
In the fifth grade science classroom, we
learned about the skeletal and muscular systems in February. We learned about
the different types of bones and muscles, and we completed a vocabulary word
search together. After finishing that unit, we created a timeline poster
project for The Middle Ages. In English class, we learned about Easter in the
United States with a presentation, then students completed a word puzzle with
Easter vocabulary.
In the sixth grade science classroom, we did a
project where students created posters that showed timelines of the 19th
century in Europe and Spain’s modern history. After they finished their
project, the students presented their timelines in English to their classmates.
In English class, we learned about Easter in the United States with a
presentation, then we played a game of hangman on the blackboard to learn new
vocabulary.
During Semana Santa, I was able to watch the
pasos in Seville and later in the week I traveled to Morocco with Dominique! I
have been enjoying springtime in Andalucía and can’t wait for these next few
months.
December and January at CEIP Blas Infante
Hello everyone!
December and January were busy months in the 4th, 5th and 6th grade classrooms. I shared a presentation with the students about celebrating Christmas in the United States. I really enjoyed working with the students in science class and talking about earth and the universe.

My first month as a Language Assistant
Hello everyone!
My name is Molly Lowney and I am the language assistant for grades 4, 5, and 6 this school year. I am very excited to be in Spain and I have enjoyed my time so far working with all the students. I am from California in the United States. I studied environmental science at university and I worked as a science teacher for the past year. I have really enjoyed my time teaching so far and I am excited to share what the students learned in the month of October!
In the fourth grade classroom, we learned about the parts of the plant, the five animal kingdoms, and plants that you can find in Andalucía.
In the fifth grade classroom, we learned about living things like herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores. The students are very enthusiastic about animals!
In the sixth grade classroom, we learned about nutrition, nutrients, and the processes of the body. For example, we focused on the respiratory, digestive, and circulatory systems.
For the last week of October, we learned about Halloween in the United States in English class. We learned vocabulary words like ghost, trick or treat, and candy. In the fourth grade class, we made our own Jack-O-Lanterns. In the fifth and sixth grade classes, we played a Halloween escape game on the computer.
Thank you so much for welcoming me at school! I am excited for all of the learning that this year will bring.
