Spring at Blas Infante
April and May went by too fast! I can’t believe this amazing experience has come to an end.
In April, a major highlight was teaching the students about Washington State—my home state. I loved getting to showcase all the things that make Washington special and sharing my favorite state with them. I showed them pictures of Mt. Rainier as well as the Puget Sound!
In May, we celebrated Europe Day, and I had the opportunity to share with the 4th, 5th, and 6th graders about two countries I’ve visited: Portugal and Ireland. It was so much fun to talk about these countries, and afterwards, we colored their flags as an activity.
One of my favorite activities this month was with the 5th graders. My teacher friend from Washington State had her students write letters to the 5th graders at Blas Infante. Over the past few weeks, we’ve been working on our responses and writing them in English. The students put so much effort and thought into their letters, and I’m incredibly proud of the progress they’ve made this year!
Working at Blas Infante has been an unforgettable experience. This year has been truly amazing, thanks to both the staff and students. I will miss everyone so much!
February and March at Blas Infante!
Hi Everyone!
February and March were full of learning and fun for the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades! In Science, we covered many interesting topics, such as the Middle Ages, Prehistory, and elements of climates. We also played fun games to practice the new vocabulary. Physical Education has also been a blast! We’ve been playing exciting PE games like "Capture the Cone," "Cops and Robbers," and "Horse."
In the 4th grade Science class, we learned about prehistory, before the invention of writing, and played Jeopardy to practice our new vocabulary! After completing that unit, we moved on to Ancient History and completed a word search. We are now learning about the economy!
In 5th grade science, we focused on the skeletal and muscular systems in February. The students worked on a worksheet where they organized different types of bones into specific skeletal categories, such as short bones and long bones. After finishing that unit, we shifted to The Middle Ages.
In 6th grade science, we learned about different climates and landscapes. We explored Earth’s different climates, such as the Mediterranean, temperate, and cold climates. To practice our new vocabulary, we then completed a crossword puzzle.
December and January at Blas Infante!
Hi Everyone!
Happy New Year! December and January have gone by so fast! The 4th, 5th, and 6th grade classes have been so much fun to work with and teach! In December, I was able to share a presentation on Christmas traditions in the United States. I have really enjoyed participating in PE with all of the other students. My new favorites games I love to play with them include, Fishie, Handball, and Infinito! I have also enjoyed working with the students in class and talking about healthy habits, the earth ,and the universe!
Here are the things the students learned in the months of December and January:
In December, the fourth grade science class, we learned about the climate and rivers of Spain. We talked about the different mountains and rivers that are found in the Andalucía region. In English class, we learned about different Christmas traditions such as Santa Claus, decorating gingerbread houses, and making paper snowflakes! In January, we learned about healthy habits and the reasons to eat healthy food.
In December, the fifth grade science classroom, we learned about population. We learned new vocab such as birth rate, migration, and the different sectors. In English class, we learned the main differences between Spain and the United States when celebrating Christmas. In January, we learned about the different climates found in different parts of Spain.
In December, the sixth grade science class, we focused on the solar system and the different planets. We learned about the different planets and new vocabulary such as constellations, galaxies, and the Milky Way! In English class, we learned the main differences between Spain and the United States when celebrating Christmas. I got invited to all of the holiday parties and loved all of the festivities and Christmas cheer! In January, we learned about the natural resources of the Earth and recently played a review game to practice their new vocabulary with a game called Bamboozled!
In December, I was able to travel to Amsterdam and Brussels! I was then able to meet my mom and sister in Madrid for New Years! After Madrid, we then traveled back to Seville. It was so fun to show them my school and the city I now call "home". My mom and sister loved Alcala de Guadaíra! In January, I went on a trip to London! It was so cold, but so fun! I cannot wait for spring in Seville and I am excited for all of the joy that will come in the New Year!
My first month at CEIP Blas Infante
Hi Everyone!
My name is Claire Golding and I am the language assistant for grades 4, 5, and 6 this school year. I have loved my last two months here in Spain and have enjoyed getting to know all of the students! I am from Washington State in the United States. I studied Elementary Education at a university and taught grade 3 for a year. Teaching the students here has brought me a lot of joy. They are so kind and greet me with hugs and smiles every day. I am so excited to get to know them even more over the course of this year!
Here is what we have learned so far in the month of October!
In fourth grade, we have learned about the animal kingdom, parts of a plant, and different types of cells.
In fifth grade, we learned about the nervous system and the five senses of the human body!
In sixth grade, we have learned about nutrition and focused on the different systems of the human body. For example, the respiratory, circulatory, and digestive systems.
During the last week of October, we learned what Halloween is like in the US. We learned Halloween vocabulary such as witch, bat, and pumpkins. To test our new vocabulary, we then played Halloween Vocabulary Bingo and had a lot of fun! Grade 6 was amazing and helped me decorate the English spot with their Jack-O-Laterns they created. I think it turned out fantastic!
I have loved my time at Blas Infante so far! I feel very lucky to work at a school, where both the teachers and students are so welcoming and kind! I am excited for all of the memories and learning that will come this year!
